wake me up, before you go go

ooh! how cute is this?!

WHAT: An alarm clock that wakes you up
with the smell and sizzle of cooking bacon.

WHY: No one likes to wake up, especially by an alarm. This clock gently wakes you up with the mouthwatering aroma of bacon, just like waking up on a Sunday morning to the smell of Mom cooking breakfast. Unless you're Jewish.

HOW: A frozen strip of bacon is placed in Wake n' Bacon the night before. Because there is a 10 minute cooking time, the clock is set to go off 10 minutes before the desired waking time. Once the alarm goes off, the clock it sends a signal to a small speaker to generate the alarm sound. The clock is hacked so that the signal is re-routed by a microchip that in responds by sending a signal to a relay that throws the switch to power two halogen lamps that slow-cook the bacon in about 10 minutes.

my-oh-my, waking up to this every morning would be bliss ....

Ink Me

During our trip, Lak & I were discussing the subject of tattoos. Lak is tempted to get a second inking and her puppy VW might be getting one too. I have been contemplating getting one for the past ... hmm, 7 years? It was between a four-leaf clover or a cluster of stars.

Funnily, Xiaxue and her gang of gal pals went to get a star tattoo each at the neck, near their right ear recently.

And by coincidence, I came across this picture on The Sartorialist, a gal with something similar to what I had in mind. But not at the neck area though.

Whaddya think? Tell me your thoughts!

Alternatively, I was suggesting to Lak that since us three were tennis mates, we should all get tattoos of tennis racquets together ... hahaha. Hmm, that didn't go down too well I think.

FashBash II

yup yup, fashbash was a BLAST!

thanks to all who came down to support ... to shop, browse, pose, chat, catch up ...

also, thank you for publicising the event, especially my dear sista who plagarized, i mean, publicized the event on her blog :)

anyway, fashbash was more hectic this year as compared to the last ... double the number of sellers + smaller display area + squeezy layout + longer hours ... unfortunately, it wasn't a pleasant shopping experience for shoppers who came earlier to snap up the goodies

as always, it is always heartening to meet the die-hard fan or two who has supported us throughout the years ... its even more satisfying to create a new BI convert ... well, i'm hoping ...

Holey Moley

Move over Krispy Kreme ... Holey Donuts has supposedly taken over holy grail of donuts!

Containing less fat as compared to KK ...

"at an astonishing two point eight (2.8) grams of total fat per donut"

"Doughnuts typically range from eight grams of fat for a glazed French cruller to more than double that for a cake-like doughnut."

"No Trans-fats! - No Cholesterol! - Just great taste!"

"you would have to eat 5 of our donuts to get the amount of fat in one traditional donut!"

check out the website and be bowled over ...

unfortunately this is only available in the States ... however, if you are planning a trip to NYC where the factory is ... please go check it out and let me know whether it tastes like heaven :)

a long weekend

yea, its been a great break ... been pigging out, hanging out & youtubing helluva lot! here is the low-down :

Club-hopping on Friday night ... Oosters, Ice-Cold Beer, Balaclava and finally St James (again, I missed Dragonfly) all in one night. And lo and behold, I bumped into my client at Ice-Cold Beer ... hmm, I seem to have much fate in meeting my clients at bars, don't I? Met this particular one on Thursday in fact. What a coincidence to have bumped into him the next day, standing at a table next to where I was seated. And uh-huh, suggested that I call him out the next time I'm out drinking ...

Finally (part 1)! Got a chance to try out the third and newly opened branch - Canele at Paragon. Very nice cake counter that will set your taste buds drooling. But the cakes were such a disappointment! Cakes were very dry and didn't have that 'oomph'. Presentation was mediocre. Service was startling. Some waiter sent the plates a crashing which woke bee up from his usual sleepy stupor. Am aiming to try The Chocolate Factory next. Apparently, it garnered more ardent worshippers from the staunch chocolate community.

Reunion dinner was pretty good. We had steamboat porridge (without the grains) at Joo Chiat. Yeah, I know its kinda hard to imagine, but the broth mixed with seafood + meat was really sumptuous. Frog legs were added in the last bit and I swear I didn't touch any froggie meat even though some relatives (jokingly) insisted that I did. I ain't ate no frog man! Ewww!!!

Lunch on CNY itself on the first day was at Sha Tin at Geylang and at Mong Hing Teochew Restaurant at Keypoint on the second day. The first restaurant was really lousy and the latter was so-so. I have come to realize that luncheons on CNY were never really fantastic. But then again, I'm no Chinese food gourmand. Give me a simple and tasty wonton noodles + 'dian xin' and I'll be the happiest Dim Sum Dolly.

Finally (part 2)! Got to check out Cafe Del Mar at Sentosa's Siloso Beach with lee. Hmm ... lee thinks its a great place to make out ... uhm, that extends largely to the whole of Sentosa with dimly lit corners and all. Another disappointment. Not as great as it looks. Not so pleasant in our muggy weather. The experience would have been better if there was a slight breeze that night. Music is not limited to just Cafe Del Mar tunes. So it can get a lil' incongruent at times with house music for a chill out place. Expect some families with kids, beach goers in board shorts + flip flops and the occasional pool dippers at night (duh!). Bikini babes? Probably in the afternoons :)

Finally (part 3)! Got to try out Kim Gary at Vivocity after hearing all the ravings from the 'ees' when they made a trip up to KL some time ago. Tried the infamous peanut butter thick toast. It was waaayyy too thick! At 2 inches. Had quite a tough time sawing + gnawing at the base of the toast. Interestingly, Ken actually thought that Kim Gary was the name of a hair salon (think Kim Robinson) hahaha!

Pop The Bubbly!

240th post since the virgin foray into the blogosphere

its been a year since the cherry got popped

fast ain't it?

i didn't expect my commitment to blogging to last that long ... but it did! having j-mee to nudge a reminder once in a while helps!

its also gratifying to see more friends who have jumped onto the blogwagon ... jellybelly, tee, shoutmates ...

on the other hand, its sad that some blogs have decided to extinguish their existence ... i-speak is one of them ... Gayle has such amazing insights and maturity in thought for an 18 year old ... that she makes me look sheepish ...

anyhow, existing bloggers, keep the fire alive!

K Fever

I have caught the K bug from tee + lee!!!

In a single week, I finished Goong aka Princess Hours and My Name Is Kim Sam Soon (omg! how cute is Daniel Henney!!! *drool*)

Am now on to my next Korean drama ... My Girl! I am addicted!!!

So far the serials are all funny and lighthearted ... and not the soppy ones that leave one tugging at sleeves or reaching out for the tissue box every now and then ... ahhh, the wonders of YouTube ... this is bliss ...

Caught quite a number of movies in the past week as well ...

Borat - sickening funny + crude humour ... definitely not for the faint-hearted ... go catch if you are a huge Ali G fan ... otherwise, please please watch Da Ali G show on YouTube first to get a glimpse of what's in store ...

Blood Diamond - impressive performance from Leonardo DiCaprio... love the accent ... lotsa action ... good plot

Night At The Museum - feel good humour, whimsical characters and as always, Ben Stiller rocks!

the empress' new clothes

its the 1st day of my sabbatical and i'm already $400 poorer (just when i thought i was done with shopping in BKK) ... the story? well, here's how my day went ...

lunched at the cee-bee-dee ... yea i thought i could escape the area ... but alas, had to meet jen to collect some stuff .... as expected, bumped into some familiar faces during lunch ...

city hall ... to check on stocks for BI ... stumbled on a SHOE SALE!!! argh!!! my fav Beverly Feldmans were on sale!!!! ... so i succumbed and bought a pair of bling sandals :)

caught up with SY at her shop ... turns out that she's going to HK too! (when i'm there ... cool!) to work on her new collection of cheongsams ... SY was just telling me about her new collection and she was raving about this particular new design that she was gonna come up with ... since i was looking for a dress for a wedding ... i bought that said dress from her on the spot ... without even seeing the dress ... let alone a sketch of it ... just imagining how it would look like based on her descriptions ... but i did get see the fabric though ... i feel like a fairytale empress in new clothes ... sucker! ... haha ... oh well ... i'm putting a lot of trust into SY's taste :) *cross fingers* ... yup, i bit the bait ... what to do ... she is only gonna make 4 pieces and she wasn't even intending to make one in my size!

my other purchase was a bag for my laptop ... its so hard finding a nice, non-black (read : boring) bag for my lappie ... so when i finally saw something colourful + quirky at Borders ... i got it right away ... it was the only one left ... feel so kiasu today ... heh :)

man, i can't bear to think about the damage i'm gonna rack up in HK ...

looking forward to meeting the 'ees' later ...

King Kong

hehe ... was chuckling after reading kennysia's post on childhood autographs ...

spurred by my upcoming trip to Hong Kong (6 to 19 September) ... would like to reproduce 2 of kenny's autographs below ... ya lah, quite childish ... but his post made me reminisce and brought back fond memories of those days when we were the young ones ... here goes ...

Old Version :

"Go to Hong Kong
Play the Ping Pong
Back from Hong Kong
Marry the King Kong "

Kenny's Version :

"Go To Hong Kong
Eat Until Song Song
Come Back Hong Kong
Become King Kong"

My Version :

Go to Hong Kong
Buy Some Racy Thongs
Seduce King Kong
Become Mrs Kong

Learn Mah Jong
Stay in Hong Kong

ha! now you know what i'm gonna be doing in Hong Kong ...

i'm glad the Germs are in 3rd place ... and happy that the Lians won ... don't like the Frenchies ... hmph!

murakami musings

am currently reading Kafka on The Shore by Haruki Murakami ... and picked up some interesting quotes worth pondering ...

silence ... is something that you can actually hear ...

its true isn't it? you hear yourself more when silence envelopes ...

different vs unusual

one and the same ... to be used interchangeably? what separates the two? do the underlying connotations run deeper? of course, this is better understood in the context of the novel ...

more musings to come as the novel progresses ...

more acronyms ... mostly from the accountant's point of view ...
CFA = Cute Fine Ass / Cute Firm Ass
CPA = Cute Perky Ass
CA = Cute Ass
BA = Big Ass
BBA = Big Bad Ass
if you do not possess the above qualifications, then it is N.A. ................. No Ass!
in the firm's context, having your own portolio of clients makes you an AH (allocation holder)

no man's land

went off-road driving today ... first time!!!

the place? no man's land ... yea, off the beaten track ... pictures do no justice to the place ... its much nicer to see it first hand ... set on an empty plot of reclaimed land ... with no buildings in sight ... with the sea breeze and clear waters ... beautiful sunset ... just relaxes you altogether ....

had a go at driving the jeep on rough and rocky terrain ... quite a fun + bumpy experience ... not fun as a passenger but in the driver's seat ... way cool! ... seeing the muddy water splash all over ... shiok! ... hahahaha .... we had to go for a car wash immediately after ... the stares that we got on the road were pretty ugly ...

also went to check out the tua pek kong temple at Changi/Loyang ... where you get to worship 3 religions at the same place ... hinduism, islam + buddhism ... hmm ... felt like a domestic tourist today ...
