Boo!!!

ok ... i have been too busy to blog ... in short ... it was serious partying over the weekend ...

Thursday night was martinis at Mortons + margaritas at Axis ... very nice chill-out places at Oriental Hotel ... this is what working life should be about ... chilling-out after work ... aahhh ... lee + i headed to Oriental after our respective off-site meetings ... meaning, we got off work earlier than usual ... hehehe

Friday night ... to deviate from the norm, checked out Skin at Red Dot Traffic Building to chill-out yet again ... headed to 2 gay clubs at Tanjong Pagar ... 1st stop was Happy ... apparently reknown for cute boys who dance with their shirts off ... but alas, at the unfashionable hour of 9pm, there was not a soul in sight ... we then headed down to Mox ... only to be greeted by 2 hotties slurping each other on the couch when we walked in ... couldn't take my eyes off them ... hahaha ... jokes aside, Mox is actually a very nice place to chill ... with retro/funky decor + furniture ... i think i could live there! :)

Saturday was fright night at Zouk's Halloween party ... went as a she-devil (who hopes to wear Prada one day) ... loads of fun + drinks ... pics say it all ...

am on my way to being an alcohol-*hic*

Mid-Week Crisis

It's mid-week ... and judging from the MSN nicks ... everyone is feeling blue at work ...

Guess everyone's schedule is topsy-turvy from the Hari Raya holiday yesterday ... Monday felt like a Friday, Tuesday (the hol) felt like a Sunday ... and today feels like a Monday ... argh!!!

Oh yes, caught 'The Prestige' and its Gooooddd!!! Better than sucky 'The Departed' ...

Is anyone still on for Halloween this weekend??? Been asking and asking for the upteenth time ... else, it will be just another KIV thingy that has been going on the past 2 years ...

Singapore Biennale - Stairway to Heaven

Saturday 14.10.2006

Went for the Singapore Biennale Walking Art Trail Tour - Stairway to Heaven ... which covers the following religious sites ... Maghain Aboth Synagogue, Church of Sts Peter & Paul, Sculpture Square, Sri Krishnan Temple, Kwan Im Temple ...

In line with the Belief theme, each site holds a couple of art exhibits that bear some relevance to the respective religions ... very interesting! Especially liked the 'Stairway To Heaven' installation artwork at Sri Krishnan Temple ... the artist created a fibre-optic ladder sandwiched between 2 mirrors installed on the ceiling and on the floor to create an optical illusion of a ladder to heaven ... very cool indeed!

Tourist for a day pics ...

:: Kwan Im Temple ... the leaves are actually inscribed with Chinese Mantras! ::

Oktoberfest 2006

Friday the 13th ... umm ... not a very auspicious day ... but with our Devil-May-Care friday mood ... we revelled in the Oktoberfest festivities near the office as soon as we could get off work :)

Good thing we purchased tics in advance as they were all sold out at about 8pm ... yeah, it was that popular ... teeming with office execs ... the place sure was crowded!

Atmosphere was so-so ... it would have been more fun with more people in the group ... unfortunately some friends had other plans and one got turned away cos' tics were sold out ... bummer ...

To add to the mood, the barmaids were dressed in traditional German costumes (but without any cleavage ... as such bee was pretty disappointed ... haha) there was also a traditional Bavarian band, Hüttenpower, belting out Oom Pa Pa music ... with all the brass and clangs ... it sounded more like a Chinese funeral procession to me ... serious!!! it was really hard to revel in such music while sitting down in an enclosed tent with bench seats ... guess it would have sounded better in an open field/beer garden or something ... but then again, if we had had more beers ... we would have been dancing on the table tops anyway :)

Food by Village was quite a let down ... much of it was cold ... and the quality was sub-standard

okay ... we were pretty bored ... hence the above self-amusement pics :)

the pic of lee + bee is such a classic ... the peeps can surely attest to that!

we were looking forward to seeing Angie's friend's hen-party ... unfortunately they didn't make it to the fest while we were there ... but we were lucky enough to catch them at the office lobby while adjourning to Velvet ...

here are the hens ....

love the bunny ears and the 'whip-me' outfit!

unfortunate chain of events took place yesterday and today ... more drama to ensue tomorrow ... it all started when we found a roach in the noodles at this prawn mee stall at Pekin Street ... so please don't EVER go there!

basically things have blown out of proportion due to the nasty owner of the food establishment ...

damn pissed + irritated ... i'm that close to getting a voodoo doll ...

will rant later on when things are more settled ... i hope ...

To Russia with Love

I have been asked to contribute my take on "local/secret gems" on quirky finds in Singapore for a foreign magazine ... I chose Salad at Haji Lane since this where we are selling our wares as well ...

Before you get too excited ... its just a short + simple contribution ... nothing fancy ... if it gets approved by the editors ... my take will be out in the December'06 issue ... promise to update in due course ...

And since i promised Stacey that we will check out Haji Lane together ... here are some pictures of Salad ...

Since we were around the Arab Street vicinity, decided to have a go at Russian food @
Nadezhda Russian Restaurant

Since we didn't know what to order, we settled for the recommended items per the food review instead ...

Borsch Soup – i call it this a Russian Minestrone Soup (sans beans) ... looked a tad disappointing ... but it turned out to be very tasty ... although another review says otherwise ...

Minskaya Kotleta – roasted chicken leg stuffed with mushrooms + Russian salad on the side ... very tender meat ... this dish it has a certain smell to it though ... best to eat it with the mustard provided ...

Blinchiki Apple with Ice-Cream – pancake stuffed with fresh apple served with honey + whipped cream + ice-cream ... this was the best of the lot! very very yummy!!!

Pelmeni - akin to wontons ... there are 3 variations of pelmenis (pork/meat/mixed) to choose from ... we opted for mixed ... there are also 4 types of dressings ... i can't remember which one we chose though ... at first bite, it was quite tasteless ... however, the flavour tends to emerge with more mouthfuls ... texture of the pelmenis was average ...

aahhh ... drinks ... this is where our faces started cringing ... although we seriously wanted to order some vodka (shots) ... we thought that it would be more fun to try out some traditional Russian drinks instead ...

simply awful!!! bleah! drinks ordered were supposed to be Russian teas and somehow there was a tinge of alcohol in them ... not very palatable ... should have gone for the vodka instead!

:: Kvas; Tea Grip (L-R) ::

:: Borsh Soup; Minskaya Kotleta; Blinchiki Apple; Pelmeni (clockwise L- R) ::

Well ... it was quite an interesting experience at Nadezhda ... worth a try if you have not had a go at Russian food ... don't expect fantastic ambience + service ... just go for the food ...

Would like to try Shashlik Restaurant (run by cranky Hainanese men and apparently famous for their beef steaks) next ... any takers?

i'm an online freak!!!

i'm such a internet addict ...

i Google practically everything ...
i read the papers online ...
i check the dictionary online ...
i shop online (eBay + other US sites) ...
i talk to my friends online (MSN/Google Talk) ...
i keep in touch with friends online via email (no more snail mails which i used to be a fan of) ...
i spew #@*&!* /rant/rave .... aka blog online ...
i check street directions online ...
i check the Yellow Pages online ...
i watch cable TV online ...

Yes ... i'm an online freak!!!

- the first appliance i turn on when i reach home is my laptop ...

- i feel disconnected when my broadband is down ...

- i feel uncomfortable if i don't check my (personal) email account(s) within 24 hours ...

- i feel shattered when my laptop crashes .. it's as if my whole world has come crashing down ...

- i prefer MSN-ing to SMS-ing ...

- my main source of entertainment are from internet sites (not porn, you dirtbag!) rather than the teevo ...

anyway, the point is ... it suddenly dawned upon me that since i read the papers online, i hardly have access to print advertisements nowadays ... i have no clue as to what the latest sales or promotions are ... new property launches ... the newest mobile phone in the market etc ...

all that i am privy to are pop-up ads ... which i immediately terminate and ignore ...

such is my internet life ...

which explains why i pay more attention to print ads when i lay my hands on newspapers :)

The Haze + The Marlboro Man

Today's PSI = Marlboro Lights

*grin*

Every conversation that i have had in the past 2 days touches on the recent haze problem ... and an interesting analogy on the haze situation came up ... linking the PSI readings with ciggies ...

Well, today's PSI was much better than Yesterday's PSI = Marlboro Red (at a high of 150 at one point) ... which allowed for the much awaited game of tennis ... yay!

It's been a month since i last played ... and i was aching to have a game ... mainly to try out my new tennis racquet ... ooohh yes, i *heart* my new racquet ... with a heavier head + tighter strings + firmer and more cushiony grip ... it allowed for more powerful ground strokes ... love the sound!

did i mention about the new tennis shoes too? :)

beer buddies

it's the month of October ... and it's time for bosom beer buddies to congregate!!!

after a failed attempt to try out the fest at Werner's Oven ... we have settled for the Erdinger Oktoberfest 2006 instead ... happens from 5pm until late ... it promises 'a mouth-watering spread of traditional German food, along with great tasting Erdinger wheat beer, which will be available at special prices'

so buds ... get your tickets (cheaper if bought in advance) ... grab a mug and i'll see you there on Friday the 13th :)

censorship

*snip snip*

found out that more and more people are getting to know about my blog ... and i am truly gratified ... thank you for reading the frivolous (mostly gluttony) musings of mine ... i will continue to uphold my promise to cam-whore as much as i can :)

however, that also means more censorship ... i think i have been pretty good so far ... not much kutiya-ing these days ... although i did get pissed off today when yet AGAIN i got interrupted by 'who else' while i was engrossed in a conversation ... i mean, if its URGENT and its about work ... fine, interrupt by all means ... but when i am talking to someone (as in really engrossed and having a good time sharing stories) and its none of your business (its not as if we are close friends or anything) ... don't butt in with comments and just come around later can? things get thrown off-course ... blardee irritating ... hate it when i get butt-in everytime i hold long conversations (which doesn't happen very often) with my neighbour ... ok i have said my piece and shall not rant any further ...

oh yes, back to censorship ... shall refrain from kutiya-ing before the word spreads like wildfire ... so hopefully this ends the kutiya chronicles ... UNLESS the kutiya really f**ks up BIG TIME lah

oh yes yes, if anything tickles you or if you have anything to add/clarify, please leave comments ... it only takes a moment ... ehh ... yea i appreciate feedback (OMG, this sounds like an occupational hazard)

:)

Back @ Work

great to see the rest of the 'ees' back in the office ... treasuring the last 2 weeks of tee's presence before she's off ...

think i'm getting away with the pink streaks (now a peroxide orange according to Keith) ... no gasps or shocks of disbelief yet ... the fashion police have yet to arrest me (i.e. The Partner + some HR fuddies)

new colleagues ... turns out that a new colleague used to be from my primary school and i can't remember her at all ... we were from different classes and strangely she even remembers which colour team i was in!!! i was in the greenies and she was with the blues ...

new assistant ... seated next to me ... i know this sounds wierd ... but its a lil too close for comfort + convenience ... for both hers and mine if you ask me ...

inherited ... okay, rather i absorbed the rest of my shitty cases from my coverage ... feel quite bad about leaving her in the lurch the past month ... but anyway it will be payback time for me ... soon ...

more resignations ... sigh ...

The Wedding

it's not The Wedding .... it's THE Wedding ...

Cousin Lavinia + Moe Sing got married today and I wasn't expecting the dinner to be much fanfare ...

was so wrong ... never did i expect The President, SR Nathan to be one of the invited guests!!! plus a whole lot of CNA newcasters + other very distinguished (read : old) looking people ... sigh ...

coming from a huge fam-Lee (the Lee Clan has 11 siblings and therefore lots of cousins for me) where EVERYONE gathers during CNY/Weddings ... it never fails to amaze me how fast my lil cousins have grown up ... the youngest of the lot has shot up lots in height and is no longer the lil whiny kid who loves Thomas the Tank Engine ... the in-betweens are in Uni/NS/just started work ... age just creeps up on me during such gatherings ... oh man ... old already :(

and of course ... the inevitable question looms ... who will be the next to get married ...

:: with Mama Lee + cousins ::

:: Leon ... camwhoring away ::

:: love this pic of the blings ::
