decor-8

:: close up of THE TREE ::

was involved in the inter-dept X'mas Decoration competition ... judging was today and notice was only given to us only last week ... with a paltry sum of S$50 ... we had to come up with something creative ... preferably using recycled material as far as possible ...

almost the entire day today was spent on the 'project' ... here are the fruits of our labour ... THE TREE! comprising of pictures of all of us in the team ... well, actually lotsa pics of the 'ees' were in the tree ... there were comments like ' how come bee appears in so many pictures???' (bee is in another team by the way) ... hahaha ... well, the source of pics came from yours truly (hence the biasness) and obviously there were LOTS + LOTS of pics of the 'ees' ...

and here is the 'inspiration' behind THE TREE ...

"Our Christmas Tree
People today decorate their homes during the festive season with pine, spruce, fir trees and/or other evergreen boughs over their doors and windows. In older days it was believed that evergreens would keep away witches, ghosts, evil spirits, and illness.

In the Northern hemisphere, the shortest day and longest night of the year falls on December 21 or December 22 and is called the winter solstice. Many ancient people believed that the sun was a god and that winter came every year because the sun god had become sick and weak. They celebrated the solstice because it meant that at last the sun god would begin to get well. Evergreen boughs reminded them of all the green plants that would grow again when the sun god was strong and summer would return.

In the Southern hemisphere, in particular on xx Street on the xth floor, there are no such things as short days or long nights. We believe that the sun, the inspiration for us to work is our shared dedication, commitment and us enjoying working with each other. We do not celebrate long days or short nights but rather value and appreciate the opportunities we have in working with and learning from each other and the fun we have together. Our evergreen boughs represent all the green plants that would grow again when the sun is shining strong and summer would be here for the next years to come."

Away Day 2006

away from the office for a team-building event at Orchid Country Club ... i must say that i had great fun and enjoyed myself trememdously, despite it being a department event ...

the workshop was well organized with excellent games to boost ... interaction amongst the department was robust as ranks were thrown aside and we all worked in different teams ... altho' sometimes one gets to see the ugly side due to the competitive streak in each of us ... but overall, it was a blast!!!

stayed on for 3 rounds of bowling ... the second round was a match between the managers and staff ... and we lost to the managers!!! argh!!! well, they won obviously cos they are older with more experience ... hehe

caught the movie Happy Feet!!!

very cute ... love the music ... some parts were hilarious ... but overall it wasn't fantastic ...

the environmental message that the director was trying to put across at the end of the movie kinda spoilt the charm of the show ... it became a tad too serious and far-fetched towards the end ... duh!

i still like fairy-tale endings especially when it comes to animation shows ... ya, i know ... no substance ... can't help it if i'm a romantic right? :)

ah well ... attempt to try Canale (for sweet desserts by the Les Amis group) on sunday failed ... hopefully i will get to try it sometime soon ... bring on the sugar!!!

i'm feeling sleepy at work AGAIN ... the rainy weather ain't helping either ... hmm, now where did i put my toothpicks ....

Yet another farewell ... time passes so quickly ... didn't even realise that Eugene was working with the firm for 5 months!!! Seemed like he had only recently joined ... and I had only recently started to talk to him on a more casual basis (shy mah!) ....
